FREE Valentines Gift Tags

Here's something I love about Valentine's Day - you can take any ordinary item and tie a pretty tag to it for a personal, thoughtful gift. Know someone who uses the same chapstick every day? Drinks the same drink? Just picking up something you know they love, dressing it up a little bit - it's a gift that shows them you love them with a small gesture.

Valentine's Gift Tags

My Valentine's gift tags are so easy to make - each tag is only two layers. The details in the top layer do all of the heavy lifting. I suggest using your Cricut Pen Tool to write the message - I just love polished look it gives. Though, of course, nothing can compare to a handwritten love note.

That Faux Stitching Detail

My favorite detail on these tags is the little faux stitching around the border. It adds so much character and gives the tag that finished, handmade look without adding any extra bulk. If you’ve ever wanted to create this stitched effect yourself, I have a video on Patreon where I show subscribers exactly how I design it using Inkscape.

Make it Pop

Adding dimension to these gift tags really elevates the look: I used foamies to lift the top layer up and add some height. I suggest writing on the white layer first before adding height. Here's a little trick: if you don't have colored foamies, use a colored marker to color the sides of the foamie so it blends in to the project. It makes the finished look so much more polished.

Cutting the Gift Tags

Depending on the size you're cutting these gift tags, you may want to change your blade prior. If you're doing a small sized tag, like for a chapstick or makeup items, the little "stitches" will be quite small. I suggest using a good quality cardstock so it doesn't snag. I also find that changing the pressure to "more" helps.

Make it Jumbo

Have you been to stores around Valentine's Day and seen those HUGE plushies? How cute would it be to take this gift tag and make it really big to add to a jumbo plushie? If you're using a 12"x12" mat, you can cut this gift tag up to 11.5" tall to match the jumbo plush. If you do this... I need to see it!

What I Used

•Cardstock from 12x12 Cardstock Shop
Bearly Art Craft Glue
•Cutting Machine (I use a Cricut Explore Air 2)
